Born inside Gateway Ventures.
We ran rounds for our own investors for years before we built software for them.
2015
Markus Kainz founds primeCROWD in Vienna.
An angel network where private investors back startups from €10,000. The network finds the startups, checks them and closes the rounds.
2022
primeCROWD becomes Gateway Ventures.
By then the network has made 35 startup investments and is one of the largest business angel networks in Austria.
2023
We start building our own software.
Spreadsheets and email stop working once a round has dozens of small investors, so we move pooling and investor management onto our own system.
2026
Calmar opens to other networks.
The software we built for Gateway becomes Calmar, and any investor network in Europe can run its rounds on it.
Today
50+ networks on Calmar.
Partner networks can join each other’s rounds, so a startup reaches investors beyond the network it started in.
